Sony PlayStation 3 60GB Console

Sony PlayStation 3 60GB Console
The PlayStation 3 was first officially announced May 16, 2005, at a press conference prior to the 11th annual Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles. The design of the machine incorporates many successful standards established by the original PlayStation and the PlayStation 2 both of which led the console markets throughout their respective generations but it also offers some new features that distinguish it from its predecessors as well as its competition.

Fittingly, the central feature of the PS3 is its CPU, the Cell processor, which was codeveloped by IBM, Toshiba, and Sony. The PS3’s Cell processor uses seven “Synergistic Processing Elements” (SPEs) plus an eighth for “redundancy,” and is designed to dynamically handle multiple operations. Graphics are produced through the RSX GPU, which was codeveloped with Nvidia. The console has 256MB of XDR RAM for use by the CPU, and another 256MB of GDDR3 VRAM for use by the graphics chip.

PlayStation 3 games can be written to DVD or Bluray discs (BDs), the higher density format codeveloped by Sony and Toshiba. Like the PS2, the PS3 is backwardscompatible, and can play both original PlayStation and PS2 games, as well as PS3 games. It can also read and play audio, video, and other files from a variety of contemporary media formats, including CDs, DVDs, and BDs.

The form of the PlayStation 3 console is similar in size but somewhat squatter than that of the PS2. It can be operated in either a horizontal or vertical position. When laid flat, the PS3 console case has a squareish footprint, and its top bows upwards, with a fronttoback arch. This case is a silvery gray plastic, and it has a sleek, Spartan aesthetic, with a only the disc drawer plainly visible along its front. Four USB ports are hidden behind a front panel.

More so than its predecessors, the PlayStation 3 was designed for communication and compatibility with other electronic devices. In addition to its Bluetooth functionalities, the console has Ethernet ports and capacity for a IEEE 802.11 b/g “WiFi” connection. Internetconnected gamers can access the web, chat with online friends, and even download content, even while playing a game. The console also reads Memory Stick, SD, and Compact Flash memory, creating opportunities for crossplatform file sharing and other communications between the PS3 and the PlayStation Portable. ~ T.J. The PS3, its been hailed as the most powerful next gen system. As of right now, I'm not sure but, I could be proven wrong. This is an unbiased review as I own all three next gen systems. Starting with the good, the graphics so far are looking great with 1080p output, it definitely is no comparison to 1080i. A blu ray disc drive will give developers more space to work with than they will ever need. 50 GB! That means huge worlds with room for things never even dreamed of in game. The online system is free but not as good as live and you can't go wrong with built in 802.11 b/g wifi. Also, the hard drive is 60 gb, much bigger than 360's. This makes the ps3 a better system in your family room. You can center everything around it. It'll hold everything you need. Now the bad. The SIXAXIS controller has no rumble a bad mistake. Im also gonna add that it is a bit gimmicky, its there but doesnt really add to the games. On the game part, its got Resistance right now which is great but, many games are going to 360 as ps3 is hard to develop for. Assasins Creed and gta are no longer exclusive and Ive heard Metal Gear might go to 360. So far I think 360 has better graphics (Gears of War) and a better game line up. Ps3 has a great line up too though, Heavenly Sword, MGS4, GT5. Its got potential and it is a must buy for the hard core gamer looking for a gaming powerhouse.Pro : 2007 games, graphics, blu ray, 60 gb hard drive, free online, wifi built inCon : SIXAXIS has no rumble, not many exclusive games

I test drive the new PS3 machine and love it so much. Wounderfully done by Sony and pictures are so crips that you can even see the skin cells, sweat, every little thing. BlueRay movie like MI:III is way ten times better then recent DVD movies. For maximum fun you'll need HDTV for pure 1080p picture quality and sound system, expensive but worth it.Pro : EverythingCon : Price and you'll need HDTV

PS3 is More Than an Ordinary Gaming console With a 3.2ghz 8-core cpu ,60 gb harddrive ,web browser and supports multiple video, photo, and audio formats to be saved on the harddrive. The PS3 is more like an Computer with its 8 core cpu by the way which isn't availble for home computers yet. Graphics as powerful as an nividia 7800gtx. blu-ray,dvd,ps1,ps2 compatible, blue tooth wireless controllers. and a very sexy interface.Pro : Everything!! 8 core cpu runing @ 3.2ghz blue-ray disc, dvd, ps1, ps2 compatible, built in web browser, HarddriveCon : price $600 but will be worth it

This is and will always be the best system until PS4 comes out. The Cell Broadband processor is amazing, and the blu-ray makes it even better. Some people think the price is outragous, but here is why its not: you basically get a blu-ray player, a ps3, ps2, ps1, DVD player, HD DVD player, cd player, computer, and a media center. Wow thats alot for only $600, seeing that just a blu-ray player is $1000. The games are $60 because the disc's are blu-ray and you are getting full 1080p HD out of them. PS3 beats Wii and 360 because Wii can't even dream of having full HD, it only supports 480p. 360's processor is only half as powerful as the PS3 and Wii is almost as powerful as the 360. The PS3 has triple the hard drive space, and the Wii is even less than the 360. Also the PS3 has MemoryStick/SD/CompactFlash Slots, the Wii just has SD and the 360 has none, but one thing they all have are USB ports which is good. The PS3 has built in Wi-Fi and the 360 does not, also PS3 online is FREE, 360 can't do that, Wii online is also free but if you dont have wireless internet, you have to buy a USB to LAN adapter from nintendo for $25.Pro : EverythingCon : Price

youve got to get a PS3 you can bring your friends along and play with 4 controllers without plugin it in the system i give this console 200 fricken starsPro : its very very fun to play with.Con : you need a plasma tv to get the best graphics and extreamly heavy

THIS IS BY FAR THE BEST HOME VIDEO GAME EVER MADE. GRAPHIC, SOUND, CONTROL EVERY THING ABOUT THIS SYSTEM ROCKS. THE PRICE IS A LITTLE HIGH, BUT WHEN YOU WANT THE BEST YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR IT. IF THIS IS OUT OF YOUR PRICE RANGE TRY ANOTHER SYSTEM ANYTHING BUT THE WII. WHAT A TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY AND TIME UNLESS YOUR 2 YRS OLD. AND EVEN THEN YOU'LL GROW OUT OF THE WII IN 6 MONTHPro : MY GOD EVERY THINGCon : PRICE

The PS3 is a great system although it does come with a price. But a Blu-ray player alone would cost about as much or more than the price of the PS3. The reason the PS3 is so expensive is becuase its basically a computer. How many good computers can you find for under 500 dollars, especially ones with a 3.2 ghz processor? The PS3 has internet browsing capabilities, wi-fi, HDMI, a 60 gig hardrive, great graphics for the games, and backwards compatible with PS2 and PS1 games. It does seem to run hot but I've been running mine in Iraq for about 5 months and it hasn't overheated on me. I do have ac in my room but being here there is an excessive amount of dust in the air. I think that by having it here Im putting it to the test and so far its passed with flying colors.Pro : Great graphics, blu-ray player/dvdplayer hdmi and wi-fi ready, and internet browsing capable. Sony's online gaming freeCon : Price and limited games right now
